I guess my comment was too long for the "short comment" vote above. My full comment was: "Whether you agree or disagree with what Wikileaks did, designating it as a terrorist organization would thoroughly discredit the notion that the US is a free society."

While I don't have statistics to confirm this, it seems as if celebrity marriages, straight or gay, end in divorce more frequently than marriages between people living non-famous lives within ordinary means.

I'm not a lawyer, but I am a little bit familiar with legal and Constitutional theory and history, through independent study and through consultation with a lawyer or two. There's a saying in the legal profession that high emotions lead to bad law, and this seems like a perfect example.

It sounds like the kid was given a chance to perform the least dangerous aspects of the job, under close adult supervision, and absolutely nothing bad happened. Obviously, we should call for Inspector Javert.

Speaking as a liberal atheist, I'd have to say that the school's reaction was extreme and unwarranted on the face of it. Perhaps there are other facts involved which have not been made public, but as things stand, I have to side with the kid.
Did the Texas school district overreact to the youngster's long hair?

Consider for a moment that this is a PUBLIC school, funded by taxpayer money, at which attendance is most likely mandatory for all local children who aren't enrolled in some private institution.
